Shaha: The Storytellers

Request a Performance

UMass Amherst campus groups and schools within the Five Collge System may request a Shaha performance by emailing Shaha@gw.housing.umass.edu, or by phone at 1-413-577-1103, ext. 2.

Information about groups outside UMass Amherst who want to request a performance

The Department of Residence Life at the University of Massachusetts Amherst is willing to provide a limited number of performances by Shaha: The Storytellers to universities and agencies off campus and outside the Five College System. In addition facilitators from Shaha will lead a discussion following the performance which will provide an opportunity for participants to engage in a dialogue of the issues, raise questions or concerns and share their own stories. In exchange universities and agencies are responsible for providing:

  • A meal for the members and leaders of Shaha if traveling over an hour to perform.

  • The cost of transportation (type of transportation to be determined and arranged for by Shaha leaders - typically a 15 passenger van.) plus the cost of gas for the trip to and from your site.

  • A performance site which is a quiet, spacious location where a performance and discussion can be held without interruption. The performance space should be at least 10' X 15' for Shaha actors. It should be on the same level as the audience. (No raised stage please). There should be minimal separation between the performers and the audience.

  • Applicable props that are unable to be transported (i.e. - up to 6 chairs)

  • Microphones only if the audience is of such a size as to require speakers to hear the actors. Performers will not hold or wear microphones, so the microphones should be suspended if they are to be used.

  • Advertising for the performance and seeking audience members.

  • A $200.00 fee made payable to UMass Amherst - Residence Life.

If you have any questions or concerns about the agreement, please contact Kathy Sisneros at (413) 577-1103 or Shaha@gw.housing.umass.edu.
