Our Story:
We are a diversity peer
education troupe at the UMass Amherst. Our shows are educational, entertaining and thought-provoking.
Have you ever experienced racism, classism, heterosexism, ableism, and other forms of oppression? Want to learn more about social justice? Shaha members perform skits inspired by their own experiences. These performances will open your eyes to how social justice issues manifest in our day-to-day lives, and open the door to discussion. Each performance lasts approximately 45 minutes and is followed by a discussion between the cast and the audience.
Mission Statement
Shaha: The Storytellers support Residential Life's
commitment to multiculturalism by providing learning opportunities to
students around issues of inclusion, social justice, and multiculturalism
through theatre-based peer education. Shaha strives to promote self-reflection
and awareness, increase dialogue, heighten sensitivity towards oppression,
provide education around social responsibility, foster cross cultural
understanding, and encourage the creation of inclusive communities.
