Welcome to Melville/Thoreau!
Greetings from your Residence Director:
Welcome
to your first year at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
My
name is Ray HeBert, and I am the Residence Director (RD) for the
Melville/Thoreau cluster for the 2007-2008 academic year. Our
halls are home to the “Enterprise and Action” Residential
First Year Experience (RFYE) community. The program is a great
way to combine the comfort and convenience of living and learning
in the building, as well as connect with faculty and academic staff
members. We have an amazing staff of Resident Assistants (RAs),
Peer Mentors (PMs), and an Assistant Residence Director (ARD) that
are working very hard to ensure that your space and first year
in college is a safe, inclusive, fun, and unique one. We place
a high premium on respect for each other and community responsibility,
so that everyone can enjoy their experience while finding a healthy
balance between academics and personal development.
The staff and
I understand that your first year at UMass Amherst will be full
of fun and challenges, but we are committed to helping
you ease that transition with our experiences and dedication.
If you need to find us, you can look for the RA on your floor,
the
PMs on the second floor of Melville in the Residential Academic
Success Center (RASC), the ARD in the Cluster Office, or I invite
you to stop by my office located on the first floor of Melville,
room 103A.
Good luck in the coming year, and GO MINUTEMEN!
