Welcome to Kennedy!

"Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country." -J.F.Kennedy

Greetings from your Residence Director:

Welcome to Kennedy! For 2007-2008, as a Residential First Year Experience (RFYE) cluster with a Pop Culture theme, Kennedy Tower will be welcoming 560 students to UMass Amherst. We are a 22 floor high rise located at the tip of the Southwest residential area. It is the first tower you approach coming from campus, making it one of the most desirable clusters to live in. It is a co-ed building, but what makes it special is that its floors are single sex – so you have your privacy!

To staff, Kennedy is known as “JFunK,” for all the FUN times we have within our community of diverse students and staff. Here in Kennedy Tower we offer you many opportunities to make new friends, to be a leader, and to be active within our community. When you become a community member, we encourage you to get involved in the programs and activities that are available to you, and to have fun!

The staff of JFunk is looking forward to aiding you in making your transition to college a smooth and enjoyable one. As the RD, I am committed to fostering an enjoyable yet socially responsible environment. My job is to oversee the Kennedy residence halls and supervise Resident Assistants (RAs), while collaborating with other departments on campus to provide valuable resources and guidance for you, our students. You will see me in my office, in the Cluster Office, on your floors, and across campus. This is because I believe that being accessible to you is important. I encourage you to stop by my office, located on the first floor, room 108.

As a staff we strive to foster an environment that is respectful and open to people of all cultures, races, religions, abilities, genders, socio-economic statuses, and sexual orientations. We want you to think of the Kennedy cluster as safe place where you live, learn, and grow!

Of course, you are a very important part of our community. Your input and participation is cheerfully welcomed. We look forward to working with you this year. Take pride in JFunk!! Your college and residence hall experiences are what you make of them! We welcome any questions, concerns, or ideas of things that you would like to see happen in our cluster.

Greetings from your Assistant Residence Directors:

Hello! I am Shannon Coskran, one of your two your Assistant Residence Directors (ARDs) in Kennedy Tower. We are another excellent resource for you! ARDs are graduate students who live and work in the residence halls. We assist with community programming and cluster administrative work. We are an essential part of the residence hall community, so do not hesitate to stop by our office, located on the first floor, room 102, and say hi!

"Ask not what your community can do for you, ask what you can do for your community"
