Welcome to Cance!
Greetings from your Residence Director:
Welcome to Cance! For 2008-2009, Cance will be a Residential First Year Experience (RFYE) cluster with a theme of Pop Culture. We welcome you to one of the smaller halls on campus, a hall that seems to sit on the border of campus and the rest of the world. Our small community allows you to not only get to know your floormates, but also your hallmates within a few short weeks.
I am Kelly Lough and will have the pleasure of being your Residence Director (RD) while you live in the Cance cluster here at UMass Amherst! I have a master's degree in student affairs administration from Western Michigan University and will be entering my 2nd year with UMass Residence Life. While I am originally from the Midwest, I have worked in the South and am excited to be continuing my work at UMass Amherst and to be living in the Northeast.
As your RD, I am committed to building a positive living and learning community for all students. I am especially known for my greeting and smile as you walk by so be sure to wave. One of my favorite times in my job is when students stop in my office to ask questions or just to say hello. You can find me in my office, which is located on the first floor, room 103A. I am happy to answer any questions you may have.
As the RD, I, along with Jillian Crocker, the Assistant Residence Director (ARD), work with your Resident Assistant (RA) to help you achieve your goals while attending UMass Amherst. Be it finding your academic niche, joining a club or intramural team, becoming a student leader, or developing a close network of friends, we will help you succeed!
We are here to help you make this your home away from home. Throughout the year, the Cance staff are committed to helping you with your transition into college. We have information on topics that range from registration, housing, campus jobs, transportation, and campus organizations, to finding the best and cheapest restaurants, to how to get to the movie theaters, or where to hike. My staff and I can point you in the right direction!
