Welcome to Crabtree/Mary Lyon/Knowlton!

Greetings from your Residence Director:

Hello and welcome to UMass Amherst! I am Gerardo Blanco, the Residence Director (RD) for the Crabtree/Mary Lyon/Knowlton cluster. CMLK (pronounced C-MiLK) is one of three clusters in the Northeast area and part of the Residential First Year Experience Program.

Under the Discovery theme, our cluster houses a significant number of Residential Academic Programs that attract students with a wide variety of interests that include Engineering, the creation of sustainable environments, community service, Science, and Business. Furthermore, Discovery has to do with exploring, learning, and going outside your comfort zone; that is exactly what your first year in college should be all about.

My central role is promoting a safe, caring, and inclusive community that helps first year students reach their highest potential. Once you arrive on campus, look for me in my office, which is located on the first floor of Crabtree. I am here to serve a resource for your development, so feel free to contact me if you have questions or concerns. The CMLK staff is excited that you are part of our community! If you are looking for a residential experience that builds upon connections and involvement, then you are headed for the right place! You are a crucial member of the CMLK community and the CMLK staff is excited to welcome you to your home for the 2008-2009 academic year!

Greetings from your Assistant Residence Director:

Hello! My name is D. Chase Catalano and I am your Assistant Residence Director (ARD). I am a doctoral student in the Social Justice Education program. I see college as a place to explore your values and identities and I enjoy working with students as they develop into their future selves. As ARD, I assist in the management and operation of the cluster by supervising the Resident Assistants (RAs) and Cluster Office Manager (COM), advising student leader groups, and much more! Once you arrive on campus, do not hesitate to stop by my office, which is located on the first floor of Crabtree, room 111, and say hi! I look forward to meeting you!
