CLs Newsletters
The following are CLs Newsletters, put out once a month as a resource and guide for CLs and their Advisors. All contain programming ideas that may be useful beyond the month they were distributed.

Each cluster has a Community Leader group. The Community Leader program is a benefit to both new and returning students. This group will be utilized throughout the year as the community developers in a variety of ways in the cluster. They will provide community development programming efforts, but will also serve as a peer connection network in the cluster.

Responsibilities of a Community Leader

Build a community within your cluster and throughout campus

  • Can Provide leadership in planning events throughout the year
  • Serve as a Peer Connection to students in the cluster
  • Assist in supporting first year and transfer students
  • Promote cluster pride and spirit
  • Coordinate your cluster to participate in campus-wide spirit events/activities
  • Mentor new students and provide assistance in their transition to UMass Amherst
  • Work as a group with your cluster staff on initiatives that will benefit your cluster throughout the year.

Represent your cluster to students and RLA

  • Role model positive behavior on campus as a member of this selective leadership group
  • One member of each cluster Community Leader group will represent their cluster as the Cluster Representative to the Residential Leadership Association (RLA)

  • Gain valuable experience as a leader
  • Make connections with other student leaders
  • Have the opportunity to participate in planning cluster and campus-wide programming
  • Have the opportunity to have a voice in what is happening in your cluster
  • Earn the opportunity to represent your cluster to other groups on campus
  • Receive on-going training on leadership development, community building and teambuilding
  • Gain opportunities to participate in a 1-credit leadership course and a weekend leadership retreat
  • Have the ability to make a difference in your community
