Reassignment Process for Students Living in Temporary Housing

Students assigned to a temporary assignment will use the Online Room Selection process to select a  permanent spring assignment.  The online room selection module on SPIRE allows students to form roommate groups and go online and select their own assignment.  As a resident in temporary housing you will have an online room selection appointment prior to other on-campus students seeking assignment changes.

Selecting your Spring 2010 Assignment
On November 30th, the Housing Assignment Office will provide you a room selection appointment for shared rooms.  We suggest that you go to the Room Selection Home Page on SPIRE and view your appointment date and time.  It is important that you select an assignment at the beginning of your appointment start date and time.

General Temporary Housing Information

Housing and Residence Life expands residence hall space and rents hotel rooms when demand for on-campus housing exceeds capacity. The information below will help you better understand the two types of temporary accommodations that will be utilized this fall.

Temporary Residence Hall Space

The temporary space in residence halls are lounges that are converted into secure student rooms. These spaces are equipped with the same features found in permanent spaces including:

  • Beds, desks, shelves, dressers and a place to hang clothing and windows.
  • Phone jack and ethernet connections
  • A door with the same lock system as permanent rooms
Students who select into a temporary assignment will be allowed to remain in that assignment for the full fall semester and will be required to move to a permanent shared room space for spring semester.  Students who are assigned to temp space for fall semester will be given priority for re-assignment to a shared room for spring.  The HAO reserves the right to consolidate students during room selection processes when permanent residence hall spaces become available.

Temporary Hotel Housing

The temporary hotel assignments are rooms in local hotels. These spaces are double occupancy with two beds. All of the amenities typically offered to hotel guests will be available to the residents assigned to the hotels. The hotels utilized by Housing Assignments are either within walking distance or are accessible to the public transportation system in the area.

Students will be re-assigned to permanent spaces as they become available. Students assigned to hotels are the first priority for re-assignment to permanent residence hall spaces.

Please Note: Students assigned to temporary housing assignments are expected to abide by all provisions of the Residence Hall Contract and the Residence Hall Manual.

Questions concerning temporary housing should be referred to the Housing Assignment Office at 413-545-2100.
