Change Process for On-Time Room Selection Participants

Students with a fall 2008 assignment as of May 14, 2008 are eligible to participate in the summer change process.  All students with a fall assignment who are interested in trying to select a new assignment should follow the deadlines below:

• Students will not “lose” their current fall assignment until they select a new assignment.
• Students will have 99 opportunities to select a room within their appointment time.  You may keep selecting a different room until the selection period ends on July 25.

Current On-Campus Students seeking a New Student or Incoming Transfer as a roommate for Fall 2008

Students with a fall 2008 assignment as of May 14, 2008 are eligible to participate in the summer change process to request a new incoming student as their roommate.  Students who are interested living with a new freshman/new transfer student will be eligible to form group and use on-line room selection to search for an open double room during the summer change process.

The student who has a fall 2008 assignment who should follow the deadlines below:

The new incoming student should contact the Housing Assignment Office once they receive their NET ID and password during the month of May for specific instructions to arrange for a room selection appointment time.

Current On-Campus Students seeking a "Late Required or "Required Readmitted" Student as a roommate for Fall 2008*

Current students who already have a fall 2008 on-campus housing assignment with an intended roommate in one of these two categories:

• Student who will be an academic freshman or sophomore in fall 2008 - 56 or less credits - who did not participate in the spring room selection process and has no fall assignment.
• Readmitted student who will be an academic freshman or sophomore in fall 2008 - 56 or less credits.

The current resident should complete the following steps:

• Request an appointment June 2-June 9 so that you are eligible to select an assignment with your intended roommate.
• July 10 complete the group formation process with your intended roommate.
• July 10 try to select a shared room with your intended roommate.

Room Selection for "Late Required" and "Required Re-admitted" Students

Students who will be academic freshmen and sophomores in fall 2008  - 56 or less credits - who did not participate in the spring room selection process and have no fall assignment and  readmitted students who will be academic freshmen and sophomores in fall 2008  - 56 or less credits will be eligible to participate in the late summer change process listed below:

• Students will have 99 opportunities to select a room within their appointment time.  You may keep selecting a different room until the selection period ends on July 25.

**If you have an intended roommate who already selected a fall 2008 housing assignment, please also see instructions for “Current On-Campus Students Seeking a “Late Required” or “Required Re-admitted” Student as a Roommate for Fall 2008.”

All Students Without an On-Campus Housing Assignment for Fall 2008***

Juniors/Seniors who did not select an assignment by May 11, 2008 are eligible to participate in on-line room selection using the timeline below:

• Students will have 99 opportunities to select a room within their appointment time.  You may keep selecting a different room until the selection period ends on August 24.

Please note – if you have an intended roommate who already selected a fall 2008 housing assignment:

• August 8 – August 13 the intended roommate currently assigned for fall 2008 must request an appointment for the Late Summer Change Process
• August 14 both students should complete the group formation process and then try to select a shared room.

***Students who select an assignment are subject to the cancellation fee if they decide later to cancel.  Do not select a room unless you are certain you want to live on-campus for fall 2008.

All Students seeking a Change of Assignment for Fall 2008

All students with assignments for fall 2008 who are trying to change to a new assignment are eligible to participate using the timeline listed below:

• Students will have 99 opportunities to select a room within their appointment time.  You may keep selecting a different room until the selection period ends on Sunday, August 24.

Students seeking a swap of assignment for Fall 2008 - August 18 through 22

Students with a Fall 2008 assignment are eligible to use the on-line room selection process listed below:

• Students with a fall 2008 assignment are eligible to complete “person for person” swaps (no swapping into a vacant space) in shared room assignments or in-hall single room assignments.
• Single to Double swaps are not allowed.  Single to Single swaps between buildings are not allowed. 

Both students who are swapping spaces should email the Housing Assignment Office from their student email account (emails from non-Umass accounts will not be accepted) with their name, their assignment as well as the name and assignment who you are swapping with for fall 2008.
