Make the Most of Your Residential First Year Experience

Get involved! You’ll hear this again and again during your time at UMass Amherst. The best way to make the most of your time on campus is to get involved in the clubs, organizations, events, and happenings that make this campus such a cool place to live! We also want you to get involved in the Residential First Year Experience. We provide you with lots of opportunities to do just that. Talk with your Resident Assistant, Peer Mentor, or senior staff to learn more about how you can get involved!

Check out the Getting Involved webpages for detailed information on how you can make the most of your Residential First Year Experience!

Also, the Student Activities Center is a great resource for involvement opportunities at the campus-wide level. Visit their office in the Student Union Building or their website for more information.

Here are 5 ways you can get involved as a Residential First Year Experience student:

  1. Participate in First Week.
  2. Become a Community Leader or join House Council – either as a floor representative or a member of the executive board.
  3. Say yes! If a staff member or another resident of the hall invites you to a program, say yes and attend the program!
  4. Plan your own program – get together with a group of friends and make it happen! Host a movie night or invite a faculty member in for dinner. The possibilities are endless!
  5. Nominate the great work of another student for an “Of The Month” Award through the National Residence Hall Honorary.
  6. Take a chance. Try something new. You won’t regret it, we promise!
