RA Selection Process FAQs

Throughout the residence halls, there are floors designated for specific programs such as first year students, wellness programs, and academic programs. Each of these floors has an RA on it that is usually interested in that same program. The following are descriptions of these programs.

Residential First Year Experience

Residential First Year Experience is a first year, all freshmen community. There are several residence halls across campus that are designated for first year students who are undeclared, or those who are interested in further major exploration. It is helpful if the RA in this program has a strong knowledge of various majors and fields within the university and be able to act as a resource for undeclared students.

Living and Learning Community

An LLC is a Living and Learning Community. There are several of these dorms across campus that are designated for students who share similar identities, interests and/or lifestyles. Resident Assistants for these floors create and implement programs focused on the interests and need of the residents. An RA for one of the LLCs should be dedicated and supportive of the identity, interests, or lifestyle of the floor.

Talent Advancement Programs

TAP programs are floors designated to students in a similar major or an academic interest area. There are many TAP floors across campus, and for a variety of concentrations. An RA for first year students with the same academic interest will tailor programs and other activities specifically toward the residents interests.
