The University of Massachusetts Amherst
invites applicants for the position of First Year Experience Specialist.
The FYES is one of three such positions that are full time professional Residence Life staff members responsible for the First Year Experience program within Residence Life.
The mission of the Residential First Year Experience (RFYE) program is to facilitate and support a smooth transition for first year students to UMass Amherst, to enhance student success and satisfaction with their residential experience, and to foster a sense of connection and pride with the University community. To fulfill this mission, the FYES directs the development of a comprehensive program intended to meet first year students' residential, transitional, and academic success needs. The FYES offers programs and resources for 1,500 - 3,200 first year students within a designated residential community.
Qualifications
Master’s Degree in
a related field such as Student Development, Higher Education, or
Counseling plus two academic years full time professional experience
in Residence Life, Student Affairs administration and/or Academic Affairs with an emphasis on student development and first year student experience required at the time of hire; proven expertise in the development of first year students and experience in relating effectively to diverse populations; leadership ability in organizational development; proficient and practiced in the goals of Student Affairs organizations. This is a 52-week position, which requires some evening and weekend work.

Range: $39,200 - $50,000
Normal Starting Salary $39,200 - $44,600
