The University of Massachusetts Amherst invites applicants for the position of Assistant Director of Residence Life.

The Assistant Director of Residence Life leads, creates, and implements the vision for recruitment, selection, orientation, training and development of 75 Residence Life professional/graduate staff members and contributes to the overall Residence Life vision, mission and values through participation in strategic planning, department goal-setting and determining priorities. The Assistant Director of Residence Life provides functional supervision to Area Directors, Student Development Director and Community Development Director, as well as other professional and graduate staff in Residence Life in the areas of selection, orientation, training, development and supervision.

This position reports to the Associate Director for Residence Life and serves in his or her absence and acts as their designee on departmental, Student Affairs, and campus responsibilities and requests. Additionally, the Assistant Director of Residence Life is responsible for planning and coordinating annual August/January staff orientation/training and on-going staff development programs for professional and graduate level staff.

Other responsibilities include coordinating the performance appraisal process for the Residence Life staff, administering assigned budgets, and coordinating the development of residence life opening/closing materials and the departmental operational calendar.

Qualifications

Master's Degree in a related field such as student development, higher education, or counseling plus five academic years post Master's degree professional experience in Residence Life at the time of hire and significant experience with Residence Life Administration with an emphasis on professional staff supervision, recruitment, selection, training, and development. Proven expertise in supervising full time professional staff. Proven expertise in the development of students, student leaders, and staff and experience in relating effectively to diverse populations. Leadership ability in organizational development; proficient and practiced in the goals of Student Affairs organizations. Some evening and weekend work plus on call/call back duty.

Hiring Salary

Hiring Salary: $51,500 - $64,300
Normal Starting Salary Range: $51,500 - $57,900
