Room Assignment Information

Residence Hall Opening and Closing

The dates and procedures for check in and check out are important. Students and their families should plan their arrival and the departures according to information provided below.

Fall 2014 Opening Information

First Year students will check into their residence halls for the fall 2014 semester either on Friday, August 29th between 8:00am-4:00pm. First Year students assigned to Kennedy Tower will have the opportunity to request early arrival on for the Thursday the 28th between the times of 8:30am- 10pm.

Transfer and North Apartment Move In will take place on Saturday August, 30th August between the times of 8:00am-1:00pm.

Most Multi-Year students will move in to the residence halls for the fall 2014 semester on Sunday, August 31st between the times of 8:30am- 10pm. Students assigned to the top five floors of Multi-Year Southwest towers will receive a Saturday Move-In Reservation.

All students will be expected to make a Move-In Reservation in SPIRE starting on August 12th. Students who are assigned to the Commonwealth Honors College Residential Community or Southwest Towers will receive move-in assistance from a professional moving company (USS). In order to support this company and provide the fastest service , CHCRC and Southwest Tower residents will automatically be assigned a move-in time.

Please Note: Students should plan their travel times and dates based on the information provided as no exceptions will be made for students arriving on dates not designated for regular check-in. More information regarding specific move-in instructions will be available in July.

Fall 2014 Late Arrivals and Failure to Check-In

Students who plan on arriving after 5:00pm on Tuesday, September 2th, 2014 must contact the Housing Assignment Office at (413) 545-2100 to request a late arrival. Students who do not request a late arrival or check in by 5:00pm on Tuesday, September 2th, 2014 will be reported to the Housing Assignment Office as a no-show and their fall 2014 assignment will be cancelled. No-show Contract Cancellations are subject to the $500 cancellation fee. For more information about the hall check in process please click here.

Thanksgiving Break Closing Information

All undergraduate Residence Halls except Break Housing Halls and North Area Apartments will close at 6:00pm on Wednesday, November, 26, 2014 and will re-open at 10:00am on Sunday, November 30, 2014. Students and families should make plans for departure based on the dates and times above. Failure to vacate by this time will result in a $150 Unauthorized Occupancy Fee. Students who require on campus housing over the break period should contact Residential Life Student Services at (413) 545-2100.

Fall 2014 Closing Information

All Residence Halls except Break Housing Halls and North Area Apartments will close at 12:00pm on Saturday December 13, 2014. Students and families should make plans for departure based on this closing date and time. Failure to vacate by this time will result in a $150 Unauthorized Occupancy Fee. Spring 2015 Opening Information

Students who are returning to the same room and have their key

Prior to returning to campus, students will be expected to complete a Spring Check-In in SPIRE under Main Menu>Housing. Students will be asked to confirm that the key code listed in SPIRE matches the code on their key. Failure to complete this step may result in students being reported as a No-show and having their spring 2015 housing assignment cancelled.

Students may return to the residence halls for the spring 2015 semester on Sunday, January 18th at 9:00am.

Students who are picking up a key from the Residential Service Desk

Prior to arriving on campus, students must make a move-in reservation in SPIRE under Main Menu>Housing to check in and pick up their key from the Residential Service Desk. Once students have picked up their key, they can begin moving their belongings into the space.

Students may check in through the residence halls for the spring 2015 semester on Sunday, January 18th from 9:00am – 10:00pm. Students may also check in on Monday, January 19th, 2015 (first day of classes) during regular Service Desk hours: 8:30am-11:00pm.

Late Arrival

Students who plan on arriving after 11:00pm on Monday, January 19th, 2015 must contact Residential Life Student Services at (413) 545-2100 to request a late arrival status. Students who do not request a late arrival or check in by 5:00pm on Monday, January 19th, 2015 will be reported to Residential Life Student Services and their spring 2015 assignment will be cancelled. Spring Break 2015 Closing Information

All undergraduate Residence Halls except Break Housing Halls and North Area Apartments will close at 6:00pm on Friday, March 13, 2015 and will re-open at 10:00am on Sunday, March 22, 2015. Students and families should make plans for departure based on the dates and times above. Failure to vacate by this time will result in a $150 Unauthorized Occupancy Fee. Students who require on campus housing over the break period should contact Residential Life Student Services at (413) 545-2100.

Spring 2015 Closing Information

All undergraduate Residence Halls will close at 6:00pm on Thursday May 7, 2014. Students and families should make plans for departure based on this closing date and time. Failure to vacate by this time will result in a $150 Unauthorized Occupancy Fee.

Graduating seniors and students assisting with commencement will receive information on how to request permission to stay late during the spring 2014 semester. For more information regarding permission to stay beyond Thursday, May 7th, please contact Residential Life Student Services at (413) 545-2100.
