Move-In Reservation and Pre-Board Confirmation
August 13, 2012 - August 17, 2012
Prior to coming to campus, students must make a Move-In Reservation and complete a Pre-Board Confirmation in SPIRE. Students will make a reservation based on their Residence Hall assignment. You can see the start times for your building here (Move In Reservation document link). Once students have completed these two steps, they must print their bar-coded receipt and bring it to campus as verification on Move-In Day.
First Year Move-In Day! *
Wednesday, August 29, 2012, 1:00pm-5:00pm
Thursday, August 30, 2012, 8:00am-4:00pm
Students must bring a printed copy of their Pre-Board confirmation receipt and their UCard (Preferred) or photo ID when they arrive at check-in.
Students who do not bring their Pre-Board Confirmation receipt will be redirected to a location where they can reprint the document, and then to the end of the check-in line. Forgetting the Pre-Board printout will add an estimated 45 minutes to student’s overall move in time.
Once students pick up their key, vehicles will be guided to the traffic queue where they will wait to be called to their Residence Hall for unloading. Minute Mover volunteers will assist with moving belongings into the room.
* Students who are part of an approved group such as PowerUp for College Success will be able to make a reservation for Tuesday, August 28th.
* Commonwealth Honors College students do not need to make a reservation. CHC students will be assigned a Move-In reservation time between 1:00pm and 3:00pm on August 29th in order to accommodate the start time of CHC orientation. CHC students must still pre-board and print a confirmation receipt.
Packing for Move-In
Students should be mindful of what they are bringing to campus. MinuteMover volunteers can only unload one vehicle per student. Any additional vehicles will not be allowed access to the hall and will be directed to a parking lot upon arrival.
For helpful tips on how to pack for First Year Move-In, please watch the video tutorial here. Students who are planning to mail items or have items shipped to the residence halls, please see Mailing and Shipping Information below.
Traveling to Campus and Parking
Detailed maps and instructions for First Year Move-In Day East and South can be found at the top of this page. Please do not use Mapquest or other web resources to get directions, as students and families will be directed on a specific route to your check-in area. Students and families should expect Move-In to take at least 90 minutes.
Once a student’s vehicle is unloaded by Minute Movers, it must be immediately moved to a designated parking lot so other students can unload. The driver should be prepared to walk about 10 minutes from the parking lot back to the residence hall. Families may park in the lot for up to 4 hours while they stretch their legs, eat and help their student set up the room.
Students who are not driving to campus
Students who are planning to arrive on campus via bus, airplane or train should plan to arrive at Haigis Mall for their scheduled move-in time. Shuttles will be running continuously through move-in times to bring students to their residence halls.
Students Unable to Arrive During Move-In
First Year students are arriving on August 30th to participate in Fall Orientation. This time is critical to the first year experience and students are strongly encouraged to make every effort to attend. Students who are unable to arrive during scheduled move-in times should contact Residential Life Student Services at (413) 545-2100.
